China unveils its nuclear triad for the first time in the grand military parade

China presented its nuclear triad for the first time this Wednesday, which includes strategic land, sea, and air forces. The forces were displayed during the grand military parade taking place in Beijing and commemorates the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the end of World War II.

The triad includes the air-based long-range missile JingLei-1, the submarine-launched intercontinental missile JuLang-3, and the ground-based intercontinental missiles DongFeng-61 and DongFeng-31.

In addition, the intercontinental strategic liquid-fueled nuclear missile DongFeng-5C (DF-5C), whose range covers the entire planet, was shown for the first time in the parade, Xinhua reports.

This is the improved version of China's first intercontinental ballistic missile, the DF-5 series, silo-based and with a range of over 13,000 kilometers, which first flew in the 1970s. The DF-5C is believed to be capable of carrying up to 10 warheads of independently targeted re-entry vehicles, reports South China Morning Post.

Among other weapons, hypersonic missiles YingJi-21, DongFeng-17 and DongFeng-26D also paraded in Tiananmen Square.
