Trump warns Hamas not to use hostages as human shields

Washington,.- The President of the United States, Donald Trump, warned this Monday the Palestinian movement Hamas not to use the Israeli hostages it still holds as human shields to stop the Israeli ground offensive on the city of Gaza, considering it "an atrocity" In his Truth Social account, Trump said he had "read some press reports" - he did not specify in which media - that said that the hostages would be brought to the surface from their underground hideouts in Gaza, and noted that such an idea would amount to "a human atrocity, a thing like which very few people have ever seen before", he wrote.

He then issued a more explicit warning to Hamas: "Don't let this happen or ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN HERE." Hamas has been holding about fifty hostages for almost two years, hidden underground, and it is feared that half of them have already been dead for months. Trump wrote his message at a time when the Israeli Army is intensifying its offensive against the city in preparation for a ground invasion. Israeli forces are harshly attacking the city, besieged and under evacuation order, with helicopters, drones, and explosive-laden robots, while their troops are gaining ground in different areas on the outskirts of the city, especially in the northwest. The hostage issue has become the main argument for continuing the war: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demands their release as a precondition for any negotiation - against the opinion of a large part of Israeli society - while Hamas considers them the only bargaining chip it has left.
