Edesur dismantles more than 6,590 illegal connections and regularizes thousands of customers in 10 provinces

As part of its fight against electrical fraud, it carried out several operations last July and August

Edesur Dominicana dismantled 6,590 illegal electrical connections, regularized 4,474 clients, and captured 164 new service users during anti-fraud operations carried out in ten provinces within its concession area.

The Southern Electricity Distribution Company reported the details of the interventions carried out during the months of July and August in homes and commercial establishments in Barahona, Bahoruco, Independencia, Peravia, Pedernales, San Juan, Elías Piña, Jimaní, Azua and San Cristóbal. The operations allowed the disconnection of clandestine connections that affected the quality and safety of the electrical supply. In Barahona, Edesur detected 1,934 illegal connections and regularized 1,015 users of the electricity service. The interventions in that province included various sectors, including La Playa and the Don Bosco neighborhood. While, in Bahoruco, specifically in the municipality of Neyba, 1,014 irregular connections were identified and eliminated; in Independencia, 125; in Pedernales, 145 and in Jimaní, 316.

With the operations in those areas, Edesur Dominicana managed to have 1,092 users regularize and be able to receive a safer supply. While 819 illegal connections were eliminated in San Juan and Elías Piña. In the same area, the distributor managed to normalize 968 users, belonging to the communities of Carrera de Yeguas, El Cercado, Hato del Padre, Las Matas de Farfán, Matayaya and Pedro Corto. While in Elías Piña the operations covered the towns of Bánica, El Carrizal and El Llano. Also, in Peravia and San José de Ocoa, 910 illegal connections were dismantled, managing to normalize 526 users in the Mata Gorda, Quijá Quieta, El Fundo, Los Barrancones and La Saona sectors.


Also, in Azua 283 users were disconnected from the system and 70 were normalized. The operations were carried out in Las Guanábanas, La Bombita, Los Toros, Pueblo Viejo and Tábara Arriba.

Also, in San Cristóbal, 1,044 irregular connections were disconnected, achieving 803 normalizations in the sectors Urbanización El Edén at kilometer 3 ½ of the Sánchez Highway, Los Britos de Sainaguá and in Haina, in the neighborhoods Villa Penca, Bella Vista, Barsequillo, Piedra Blanca, el Fran Boyan and El Invi. The company facilitated the regularization of their electricity service for users, offering payment agreement options and allowing contract requests from their homes, through commercial agents deployed in the intervened communities. Edesur is committed to combating electricity fraud in order to reduce energy losses and prevent accidents caused by clandestine connections. In this way, it contributes to making the service more efficient for its customers.
