Higüey. – The Eastern Electricity Distribution Company (Edeeste) and the Deputy Attorney General for the Electrical System (Pgase) report that they continue dismantling irregular connections through extensive inspection operations in various commercial establishments, this time in the Villa Francisca sector, Higüey municipality, La Altagracia province. In this operation, which also involved the Superintendency of Electricity (SIE), the authorities detected serious irregularities in the electrical connection of the Hotel Don Pedro in this province, evidencing an intentional manipulation of the measurement system, seeking to hide the real energy consumption. According to estimates made by Edeeste technical personnel, the Don Pedro Hotel was failing to bill approximately 45,478.35 kWh, equivalent to an approximate amount of RD$ 627,610.66, to the detriment of the Dominican State and the distribution company.

Pgase, SIE, and Edeeste point out that these fraudulent connections to the detriment of the energy service by large commercial and industrial consumers represent a clear violation of the General Electricity Law 125-01 and an attack on the national electricity system. It should be noted that, during the last few months, Pgase, along with the electricity distribution company, has led extensive operations in the province of La Altagracia, which have made it possible to dismantle a large number of clandestine connections by establishments dedicated to various sectors, these being duly notified, sanctioned and processed for their subsequent normalization. Pgase, SIE, and Edeeste reiterate their commitment to the national strategy of zero tolerance for electricity fraud, as this not only financially affects the system, but also causes an overload in the distribution network, reduces the quality of service for other users, and increases operating costs, which ultimately unfairly impact those who do comply with their obligations. In that sense, they call on the population to report through institutional channels any type of illegal actions that affect the electrical system, especially irregular connections by citizens and companies.
