Federations participate in Transparency and Accountability workshop

SANTO DOMINGO.- The National Sports Federations participated this Friday morning in the workshop on Good Practices of Transparency and Accountability, jointly given by the Ministry of the Presidency and the Chamber of Accounts of the Dominican Republic.

Around 70 people, including federation presidents, as well as those in charge of managing the finances of these organizations, attended the Auditorium of the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame to participate in the training, which was led by the Center for the Promotion and Promotion of Non-Profit Associations (ASFL), an institution belonging to the Ministry of the Presidency. Said workshop served as an introduction to several deliveries that will be made in order to guide the different federations on how to detail and present the financial reports to the Chamber of Accounts of the Dominican Republic, as well as to make transparent the resources they receive from the State. Ms. Vielka Polanco, executive director of the Center for the Promotion and Development of Non-Profit Associations, highlighted the importance for the entity that the federations receive the training. "We do all this with the purpose of strengthening the sports movement and ensuring that more children and young people have access to sports," said Polanco in his speech, in which he spoke about good governance practices, the quality of accountability, and transparency in digital media. The president of the Dominican Olympic Committee, engineer Garibaldy Bautista, expressed his hope that the workshops will have a positive impact on the image of the leaders of the 36 sports disciplines in the country. "I hope that what we have learned here we put into practice, since we are always in the eye of the hurricane of public opinion. These workshops will serve to strengthen the actions and transparency of the federations and the Olympic movement," said engineer Bautista. The activity was attended by the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Sports, Franklyn de la Mota, representing Minister Kelvin Cruz. De la Mota considered what happened this Friday as "a special day", referring to the fact that work must continue so that the cleanliness and transparency in the management of the resources allocated to the sports sector becomes more noticeable. Ivette Melo, director of Budget Analysis of the Chamber of Accounts, attended on behalf of the president of said entity, Emma Polanco. Melo thanked those present for attending the meeting and highlighted how valuable it is for all of society that there is transparency with the resources that come from the state.

Among the speakers at the first session of the workshop on Good Practices in Transparency and Accountability were María Ysabel Terrero and Jasmín Urbáez, analysts from the ASFL division, Budget Analysis department. In addition to Michelle Cosme, analyst from the Social Control department. Leivi Pérez, in charge of the Accountability Division of the National Center for the Promotion and Promotion of Non-Profit Associations, was in charge of informing those present about the benefits of the automation and digitalization of the accountability process.
