Army seizes more than 200,000 cigarettes discovered under two vans in Valverde

The drivers of the vans were arrested and will be sent before the authorities of the Public Ministry for trafficking in illicit goods. Valverde, RD. A total of 209,600 units of Capital brand cigarettes, introduced into the country illegally, were seized by the Dominican Republic Army during two operations carried out in the Maizal section, Valverde province. In the first case, Alquimides Bueno Rodriguez was arrested, who was driving a white Toyota Hilux pickup truck, license plate L479055, in which he was transporting 499 packs of Capital brand cigarettes, equivalent to 99,800 units.

Minutes later, the ERD patrol stopped Mariolis Julián Fortuna Peña, driver of another white Toyota Hilux pickup truck, license plate L525791, inside of which were found 549 packs of Capital cigarettes, equivalent to 109,800 units. The detainees will be sent before the authorities of the Public Ministry to be prosecuted for trafficking in illicit goods. While the illegal cargo will be handed over to the authorities of the Specialized Corps for the Control of Fuels and Merchandise (CECCOM) for the corresponding legal purposes.
