Barahona. – A Haitian child of 9 years old died after receiving a gunshot wound to the head with a homemade weapon, known as a “chilena”, in an incident recorded in the community of La Mina de Barahona.
According to preliminary information, the shot was fired by another 13-year-old, also a resident of the area. The unfortunate event occurred while both children were handling the device in an apparently reckless manner.The youngest injured person was transferred in critical condition to the Taiwan Regional Hospital, in Azua, where he unfortunately passed away while receiving medical attention due to the severity of the injury.
This tragic incident has generated consternation in the community and has reignited the debate on the access of minors to homemade weapons, as well as the responsibility of adults in their environment.

The relevant authorities are investigating the case, while parents, guardians, and community leaders are urged to reinforce supervision and prevention to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
