JCE discards automated voting for the 2028 elections

Santo Domingo.- The Central Electoral Board (JCE) ruled out the possibility of implementing automated voting or electronic voting in the 2028 elections, because the regulations do not contemplate it.

In response to a communication from the political delegate of the party Fuerza del Pueblo (FP), Manuel Crespo, who in a communication, dated May 28, 2025, expressed concerns related to the use of technology in the upcoming electoral processes, the Plenary made it clear that "electronic voting and automated voting are not provided for in the Organic Law on the Electoral Regime No. 20-23."

In that sense, the JCE maintained that one of the guiding principles of the electoral system is legality, in accordance with article 4, numeral 1, of said law, so any initiative that implies the adoption of voting technologies must strictly adhere to that legal framework.
