MINERD suspends classes in vulnerable centers due to rain

Santo Domingo. – The Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD) announced this Friday the activation of security protocols in the educational regions of the provinces under yellow alert, while authorizing the suspension of classes in schools considered vulnerable due to their proximity to ravines, rivers or areas at risk of flooding.

The preventive measure seeks to safeguard the integrity of students, teachers, and administrative staff, in response to the bulletins from the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) and the Emergency Operations Center (COE), which maintain a yellow alert for Santo Domingo, María Trinidad Sánchez, San Pedro de Macorís, La Altagracia, El Seibo, Distrito Nacional, La Romana, Samaná, Hato Mayor, and Monte Plata.

Likewise, provinces such as Barahona, Azua, Peravia, Pedernales, San Juan, San José de Ocoa, San Cristóbal and Sánchez Ramírez are on green alert, where educational authorities must remain vigilant and attentive to the evolution of the phenomenon.

According to Indomet, during the morning of this Friday, rainfall will especially impact La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Monte Plata, Gran Santo Domingo, Peravia, San Cristóbal, Azua, San José de Ocoa, San Juan, Barahona and Pedernales, with moderate to heavy showers, accompanied by electrical storms and wind gusts.

The Minerd urged directors, teachers, students, and families to follow information through official channels and to strictly comply with the recommendations of the competent authorities.
