Cuban President warns of consequences for those who protested blackouts

The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, warned that there will be no impunity for the people who led protests and acts of vandalism amid the unrest generated by the prolonged blackouts affecting the country. Through a message posted on his social media, the president acknowledged that the population's discontent due to the electrical interruptions is understandable, which he attributed to the energy blockade imposed by the United States and which, according to him, has worsened in recent months.

Díaz-Canel noted that the complaints and claims of the citizenry are legitimate, as long as they are made with civility and respect for public order. However, he warned that the authorities will not allow violent actions or acts of vandalism that affect citizen tranquility or the security of institutions. “There will be no impunity for vandalism and violence,” the president stated, reiterating that the government will take action against those who participate in disturbances. In recent days, demonstrations have been reported in some locations on the island, driven by the population's discontent with the constant power outages and the difficult economic situation the country is going through.
