Tokyo, Japan. – Dominican sprinter Alexander Ogando concluded his participation in the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025 with an outstanding performance, finishing in sixth position in the 200-meter final with a time of 20.01 seconds, solidifying his place among the elite of international athletics.

The race, one of the most anticipated of the event, was won by American Noah Lyles, who confirmed his status as favorite by stopping the clock at 19.52 seconds. His compatriot Kenneth Bednarek took the silver with 19.58, while the bronze went to Jamaican Bryan Levell, with 19.64. The Olympic champion, Letsile Tebogo, was one hundredth of a second away from the podium.
Ogando, a native of San Juan de la Maguana, adds this participation to a career marked by great achievements. He was a silver medalist in the mixed 4×400 meters relay at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and at the Eugene 2022 World Championships he won gold in the same event along with Fiordaliza Cofil, Marileidy Paulino and Lidio Feliz. In individual tests, Ogando had already shown his potential: finalist in the 200 meters in Eugene 2022 and third place in the final of the Diamond League of Zurich in that same year, where he clocked 20.16 seconds. In addition, in Brussels 2022 he was runner-up behind the American Erriyon Knighton. He arrived in Tokyo 2025 ranked fourth in the world ranking for the 200 meters, after a solid summer in which he achieved third place in the final of the Diamond League. With personal bests of 19.86 seconds in the 200 meters (national record), 44.68 in the 400 meters and 10.09 in the 100 meters.
