SANTO DOMINGO, RD.- The journalist José P. Monegro, director of the newspaper El Día, was recognized this Friday during the opening ceremony of the National Minibasketball Convivium 2025, an event dedicated to him and which brings together the 12 best teams in the country.

The protocol ceremony was held at the Horacio Muratore National Minibasketball House, in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, and was led by engineer Rafael Uribe, president of the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal), along with Sports Immortal and Vice Minister of Sports, Fernando Teruel, president of the National Minibasket Commission. The recognition was presented to Monegro by Uribe and Teruel, accompanied by Alberto Rodríguez, executive director of the National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI); Andrés Vanderhorts, former Secretary of Sports; and Junior Páez, vice president of Fedombal. Also present were the Immortals of Sport Evaristo Pérez, as well as Fausto Paulino and Luis Minier, presidents of the basketball associations of San Pedro de Macorís and Montecristi, respectively.In thanking for the dedication of the Convivio, Monegro expressed his gratitude to the organizers, leaders, and athletes of national minibasketball.
“Athletes, enjoy your event during these three days of activity —from the 12th to the 14th of this month—, play, have fun, and make friends, many of them for life”, he stated.
Division by groups
The 12 participating teams were divided into two groups:
Group A: Santiago, Distrito Nacional, La Vega, Duvergé (Independencia), San Cristóbal and San Pedro de Macorís.Group B: Moca (Espaillat), Puerto Plata, San Juan, Santo Domingo Province, El Seibo and Barahona.
