The popular Ghostbusters film franchise is preparing its return to the world of animation with two new projects developed by Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation, as part of the expansion of the saga's universe.
According to industry reports, the streaming platform is currently working on an animated series and an animated movie, both set within the same universe of the famous ghost hunters. The series would be set in the 90s and will explore new stories related to New York City and its paranormal phenomena.
The animated film, which began its development in 2022, will also be part of this franchise expansion strategy, with the intention of attracting both historical followers and new audiences.
These projects arrive at a time when the saga is experiencing renewed interest after the premiere of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire in 2024, which continued the story of the iconic franchise created in the 80s.
