Arroyo Barril, Samaná. – The mayor of the municipal district of
Arroyo Barril,
Luis Felipe Fermín, held an important working meeting with
Jackeline Regalado, Training Advisor to Companies, and
Claudia Archibald, Business Advisor of
INFOTEP Cibao Nordeste, with the aim of coordinating the implementation of
technical and vocational training programs aimed at the municipalities.
During the meeting, the planning of
courses to be taught at the Arroyo Barril Vocational School was agreed upon, focusing on strategic areas such as
cruises, ports, tourism, services and other related areas, with a view to preparing the local population for the
job opportunities that are coming.
In the meeting,
Fiordaliza Calcaño de Almeyda, in charge of
Free Access to Information of the City Council, also participated, reaffirming the institutional commitment to
transparency and the correct articulation of the training processes.
These actions take on special relevance in the face of the development of the
new Tourist Port of Samaná (Port Samaná), an ambitious
private investment project executed by
ITM Group in Arroyo Barril, on the grounds of the former
Puerto Duarte. The initiative seeks to position Samaná as a
strategic destination for cruise tourism in the Caribbean, through the construction of a modern terminal that will include a
water park and commercial areas.
According to projections, the
first cruise ship arrival is scheduled for November 2026, which will generate
thousands of direct and indirect jobs and a significant economic impact at the regional level, also supported by social initiatives such as the
Genera ITM Foundation.
When referring to the scope of the project, Mayor
Luis Felipe Fermín reiterated his
firm commitment to the development of Arroyo Barril, assuring that his administration will continue to prioritize the
training, inclusion, and participation of the local community, so that the municipalities themselves are the ones who lead and directly benefit from this development process.
