Santo Domingo. – The main avenues of Greater Santo Domingo woke up with much lighter traffic than usual this Wednesday, September 24, a non-working day in the Dominican Republic for the commemoration of the Virgen de las Mercedes, patron saint of the Dominican people.
A tour of different sectors of the capital revealed that avenues such as Alma Máter, México, Winston Churchill, 27 de Febrero, Abraham Lincoln, Av. del Puerto; as well as several residential streets, presented a minimal vehicular flow compared to working days. Traffic lights remained red in front of very few vehicles, while pedestrians and cyclists could move with greater comfort.
The tranquility in the streets reflects the pause that this date brings each year, when thousands of Dominicans take advantage of the holiday to attend religious events, visit family, or rest.
