Santo Domingo. - According to the Dominican Republic's Meteorology Institute (INDOMET), isolated showers are expected during the morning of this Wednesday, associated with the transport of moisture by the southeast wind blowing over the country, generated by the distant effects of hurricane ERIN. These precipitations would be observed in towns near the South coast, such as: La Altagracia, San Pedro de Macorís and Barahona.
In the afternoon, as a consequence of the afternoon heat and a weak tropical wave approaching our area, some cloud increases are expected, which will give rise to isolated showers, thunderstorms and possible wind gusts, in provinces such as: Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, La Vega, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, Monte Cristi and Valverde, until the early hours of the night.
On Thursday, the moisture content will be limited in our air mass, due to the effects of a high-pressure system in the North Atlantic, generating relatively stable conditions in several regions of the country. The precipitation that occurs will be generated by the effects associated with the diurnal cycle, with isolated showers and possible thunderstorms expected in towns in the northwest, northeast and the Central mountain range, which will disappear at the beginning of the night.
The temperatures will remain quite hot, due to the southeast wind blowing over our territory, as well as the time of year and concentration of dust from the Sahara desert which will increase from today. Therefore, it is important to stay hydrated, wear light-colored clothing and not be directly exposed to solar radiation, especially during the period of greatest insolation (11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).
Cyclonic activity in the Atlantic basin, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico or America:
An area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms, linked to a tropical wave, is approaching the Lesser Antilles, moving west and then west/northwest at about 32 km/h. It has a low probability (around 10%) of cyclonic formation for the next 2 days, while, for the next 7 days, the probability of development increases, being medium (around 60%).
An area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms, associated with a tropical wave, is located over the Eastern Tropical Atlantic, southwest of the Cape Verde coasts, moving west at about 24 km/h. It has a low probability of 30% cyclonic formation in 48 hours, as well as for the next 7 days.
National District: partly cloudy at times with isolated showers in the morning.
Santo Domingo North: scattered clouds to partly cloudy.
Santo Domingo Este: partly cloudy at times with isolated showers in the morning.
Santo Domingo Oeste: scattered clouds to partly cloudy.
Temperatures: the minimum will be between 22 °C and 24 °C and the maximum between 33 °C and 35 °C.
Summary: South/Southeast wind associated with the distant effects of ERIN will favor some showers in the morning. In the afternoon, other showers in isolated points of the interior of the country. Hot temperatures due to the time of year and the south/southeast wind.
On Friday, an active tropical wave currently located over the Central Atlantic and with a medium probability of reaching the category of tropical cyclone, will be disrupting weather conditions over the country, providing humidity and instability that will give rise to scattered showers, thunderstorms and possible wind gusts, especially during the afternoon until the early hours of the night, towards the northeast, southeast, northwest and Central mountain range regions.
National District: Occasional cloud cover increases with scattered showers and possible thunderstorms.
Santo Domingo: Occasional cloud cover with scattered showers and possible thunderstorms.
