Santo Domingo. - Responding to a request from the Public Ministry, a court sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for taking the life of another in the midst of a discussion over an economic debt, in an event that occurred in the municipality of Los Alcarrizos, on March 19, 2017.
During the trial, litigating prosecutors Sugely Valdez and Francheska Alcántara presented various pieces of compelling evidence to the court to obtain a guilty verdict against the defendant Jhonny Marte Suero.
The file, prepared by prosecutor Yessica Durán, establishes that the victim Jairon Lebrón went to 7th street in the Los Americanos sector with the aim of recovering money he had lent to the now-convicted, causing a heated discussion between both men. In the midst of the confrontation, the defendant pulled out a knife with which he inflicted multiple chest wounds on the victim, who died while receiving medical attention at the Doctor Vinicio Calventi hospital.
The litigant, who was a fugitive, was captured in the municipality of Pedro Brand in the year 2024, with an arrest warrant being executed against him.
Marte Suero was convicted of violating articles 295 and 304 of the Dominican Penal Code, which typify voluntary manslaughter.
The Fourth Collegiate Court, presided over by Judge Julio de los Santos Morla and comprised of magistrates Leonarda Quezada Belén and Clara Yoselin Rivera Franco, sent the convicted person to serve the sentence at the Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CRR) El Pinito, in La Vega.
