During the event, the Cabinet coordinator, Tony Peña Guaba, stated that “my father's leadership lives on in the memory of every Dominican. His fight for social justice and democracy continues to inspire those who work for a more equitable and supportive society.”
One of the first to receive the medal was Fausto Herrera Catalino, leader of the PRM and national president of the Frente Barrial y Comunal. His recognition highlighted his commitment to the ideals of Peña Gómez, including his promotion of Law 46-23, which declares March 6 as National Day in honor of the Perredeísta leader. Herrera was described as a “symbol of struggle and fidelity to the Dominican people.”
The act was also a space to reaffirm Peña Gómez's progressive thought. "This recognition is not only to individuals, but to those who have defended the cause of a more just country, from community activism to major social reforms," the organizers indicated.
With emotional applause, the awarding of medals, and a firm commitment to continue his legacy, the event concluded by reaffirming that Peña Gómez's mark remains alive in the heart of Dominican democracy.
