COE maintains 16 provinces under alert for rains and risk of flooding

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported this Thursday that it maintains seven provinces on yellow alert and nine on green alert, due to the persistence of rains that could cause urban and rural floods, rising of rivers, streams and ravines, as well as landslides.

The provinces of: Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Duarte (especially Bajo Yuna), San Cristóbal, María Trinidad Sánchez, San José de Ocoa and the National District are under yellow alert.

While in green alert are: Santo Domingo, El Seibo, Elías Piña, Peravia, Hato Mayor, La Romana, Samaná, La Altagracia and San Pedro de Macorís.

The COE urged the population not to cross rivers, streams or ravines with high water volume, nor to use swimming areas due to the strong current and turbidity they still maintain.

He also asked parents and guardians to watch over their children to prevent accidents in bodies of water, and drivers to take precautions due to reduced visibility from the rains.

Authorities urged residents in vulnerable areas, especially near rivers and unstable terrains, to remain attentive to official bulletins and follow the guidance of civil protection agencies.

For reports and assistance, the COE reminded that they can be contacted at the phone numbers 809-472-0909, 911, or *462 from the OGTIC.

People should refrain from crossing rivers, streams, and ravines with high
water volumes, and from using spas in the provinces under alert.
