NEW YORK— Dominican superstar Juan Soto had an emotional reunion with his former Yankees teammates this Friday at Yankee Stadium, for the first time since he signed the largest contract in baseball history with the New York Mets.

During batting practice prior to the start of the highly anticipated series between the Yankees and Mets, Soto shared smiles, handshakes, and hugs with familiar figures from the New York dugout, including manager Aaron Boone. The moment was captured by cameras and celebrated by both fans and media present, highlighting the camaraderie that still persists, despite the change of uniform.

This weekend marks the first chapter of the 2025 edition of the historic “Subway Series”, and both teams arrive as leaders of their respective divisions, fueling the collective dream of a possible Subway World Series for the first time since 2000.

Soto, who in 2024 was key in the Yankees' return to the World Series after a 15-year absence, signed a record contract with the Mets in the offseason for US$765 million, an unprecedented figure in Major League Baseball. Although the Yankees matched the offer, Soto chose to cross the city, a decision that still resonates among the Bronx fans.

During his only season with the Yankees, Soto and Aaron Judge made history by becoming only the third duo in the club to hit 40 home runs each, joining legendary combinations like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, and Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle.

Now, Soto returns to Yankee Stadium as a rival, patrolling right field in a Mets uniform. A reception as intense as it is divided is expected from the fans, in an atmosphere charged with rivalry, nostalgia, and anticipation.

The series promises to be one of the most exciting of the 2025 calendar, with Juan Soto as the central figure on and off the field.
