British Callum Bates raises funds by walking from Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata to strengthen education

Puerto Plata. — In a feat marked by physical effort and solidarity, British fundraiser Callum Bates completed this Friday a 216-kilometer walk across the Dominican Republic, with the mission of raising funds to expand the library of a school in Montellano, through The Dream Project.

The journey, which lasted for a week, began in Parque Colón in the Colonial City and ended at the Amphitheater of Puerto Plata. During his journey, Bates crossed rural and mountainous terrains, including a particularly challenging stretch in the Cordillera Septentrional, beyond Santiago.

“It was an honor to walk through this beautiful country on behalf of the Juan Lockward School. I know that the money raised will practically double the size of their library,” Bates said at the end of the walk, which is part of his charitable initiative ‘Walk for Education Tour’.

With the $1,200 dollars raised so far, the project will directly benefit dozens of students from the Juan Lockward School in Montellano, providing them with essential books and educational resources.
