Miami (USA) (EFE).- Heritage Auctions sold a card signed by Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan for more than $12.9 million, a record amount for a card of this type in the United States and making it the second most expensive sports collectible of all time.

The card, whose buyer was not identified by the auction house, belongs to the Upper Deck Exquisite 2007-08 collection and incorporates the NBA logo patch from Bryant and Jordan's jerseys. "The NBA logo, taken from a Kobe jersey, is presented in its standard patriotic color scheme, the accompanying gold logo guarantees its participation in the glorious 1996-97 season, in which Jordan won the penultimate NBA Championship of his legendary career," Heritage Auctions stated on its website. According to the signature, this is the only card in their collection that features the signature of both bodyguards. Jordan has four similar cards with LeBron James, two with Julius Erving, and another with his former Chicago Bulls teammate, Scottie Pippen, while the former Lakers guard, who died in 2020 in a helicopter crash, appears on eleven cards from the "Dual NBA Logo Autographs" series, which ran from 2004 to 2009. The auction house valued the card at $6 million before the bidding began. The $12.9 million paid for it makes it the most expensive sports card ever recorded, surpassing the $12.6 million for which a 1952 card of American baseball player Mickey Mantle, a legend of the New York Yankees, was sold in 2022. Regarding basketball cards, an investment fund paid $5.9 million in 2020 for one autographed by Stephen Curry. However, it still holds the second spot on the list of most expensive sports collectibles. It is surpassed by a jersey worn by the legendary baseball player Babe Ruth during the 1932 World Series, which was auctioned last year for $24 million.
