The unstoppable arrived at a key moment, as it brought the Diablos one step closer to the bicampeonato of the Mexican Baseball League (LMB). Cano, 42 years old, was surprised by the feat and acknowledged that he was not aware of the figure at the time of batting.

“I actually didn't know anything. About a month ago a friend told me I was missing some hits for the 4,000, but I didn't even remember it. When I connected the unstoppable and they asked for the ball from the dugout, that's when I realized it. For me, the most important thing now is to win another championship with the team,” expressed the stellar player.

An elite club

With this mark, Canó joins a select group of legendary players that includes Hall of Fame figures like Ty Cobb and Ichiro Suzuki, who also reached the 4,000-hit barrier in professional baseball.

The Dominican player did not hide his gratitude towards the scarlet fanbase:

“For me, the love they have shown me both in the team and in every stadium I visit is quite important. Seeing those fans supporting us anywhere is something that motivates us and I am very grateful to them,” said Cano.

Near Durango, but Convinced by Diablos

The Dominican also revealed that at first his destination seemed to be Generales de Durango, before arriving at the Diablos Rojos in 2024:

“I wasn't coming for Diablos, I was going to end up in Durango. There was Mr. Eddie Díaz there, but in a meeting of the Dubai league, Jorge del Valle convinced me to come to the best and most winning franchise. And here I am,” he recalled.

With this monumental achievement and the Diablos just one victory away from revalidating the crown, Robinson Canó reaffirms his place as one of the most transcendental figures in Latin American and world baseball.
