Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris revealed in her new book, which outlines the particularities of her presidential campaign, that she felt "angry and disappointed" with President Joe Biden after his circle refused to support her.

Titled '107 days', the book, obtained by The Guardian a week before its release, explains that, hours before her debate with Donald Trump, Harris received a call from Biden to hear unpleasant news. "My brother called. He has been talking to a group of influential people from Philadelphia", the book quotes the former US president, adding that Biden provided the names of these individuals to Harris in case she knew them.

"Then he got straight to the point. His brother had told him that those guys wouldn't support me because I had been talking badly about him. He claimed he wasn't willing to believe it, but thought I should know in case my team had been encouraging me to expose ourselves," writes Harris. Next, Biden steered the conversation to repeatedly talk about his experience in previous debates, causing Harris to misunderstand why he called her just before her encounter against Trump. "I couldn't understand why he was calling me at that very moment and focusing everything on himself", Harris expresses, noting that her husband "realized how angry and disappointed I was".

Disdained Loyalty

However, this was not the only moment of tension experienced between the politicians. Harris was concerned about the difference between Biden's ability to govern and his ability to campaign — when he still wanted to run for a second term —, the latter of which set off alarm bells. "His voice was no longer firm, his verbal stumbles were more frequent", says the book. When Biden faced criticism demanding he step aside after his poor performance in his first presidential debate in 2024, his wife, Jill Biden, questioned the loyalty of Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff.
