The populist Andrej Babis, winner of the general elections in the Czech Republic last weekend, expects to close contacts to form a government with the ultranationalist and xenophobic SPD party and with Motoristé, which opposes the EU's climate policies, before Friday. This is how Babis, one of the richest men in the country, explained it in a video on the social network Facebook, reports Radio Prague International. He also expressed his confidence that he will be able to have the Government program agreement ready before the constitution of the new Lower House, which will be held on November 3rd. According to Radio Prague, the SPD would have the Ministries of Interior, Transport and Agriculture, while Motoristé would take over Foreign Affairs, Culture and Environment. This party opposes the European Green Deal and policies against climate change and, especially, the plans of the European Union, to which the Czech Republic belongs, to ban the sale of internal combustion engine cars from 2035. ANO, Babis' party, would keep seven other Ministries. Babis won the elections with 34.5% of the votes and 80 of the 200 seats, so he needs the 15 deputies of the SPD and the 13 of Motoristé to add a government majority. The SPD is an anti-immigration and pro-Russian formation, which questions the Czech Republic's membership in the European Union and NATO. Babis, who was prime minister between 2017 and 2021, is not pro-Russian, but he is critical of Czech aid, including military aid, for Ukraine to face the Russian invasion.
