The National Council for the Promotion and Support of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (PROMIPYME) delivered this Tuesday RD$50 million in credits to 232 borrowers in this municipality, as part of the emergency funds authorized by President Luis Abinader to support those affected by the storm Melissa.

During the event, the director of PROMIPYME, Fabricio Gómez Mazara, highlighted that the institution has opened new opportunities for micro-entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs throughout the country, in fulfillment of the commitment of President Abinader, who has placed SMEs at the center of public policies.

"In accordance with Law 488-08, we arrive with a clear mission as an allied arm of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM): to promote financial inclusion, facilitate access to credit and offer non-financial services of technical assistance and training," said Gómez Mazara.

He also recalled that, since his arrival at the institution in November 2023, he has personally made more than 45 territorial visits to deliver credits like those granted on this occasion.

"We are proud to say that we have disbursed a total of RD$13.25 billion, of which 51% has benefited businesses led by women. We invite everyone to learn more details and complete their application forms on our portal www.promipyme.gob.do," he added.

At the closing of the event, the Minister of Industry, Commerce and SMEs, Víctor 'Ito' Bisonó, highlighted that micro-enterprises represent 89% of the country's business fabric, which is why the vision of President Abinader, the MICM and PROMIPYME is to strengthen this segment to continue driving national development and productivity.

He also referred to the measures taken by the Government to guarantee supply in the affected communities.

Bison valued the role of women in the economy, noting that when they are incorporated into production processes "their impact is decisive." He also highlighted that both the MICM and PROMIPYME are setting an example by channeling these emergency funds specifically for those affected by Storm Melissa.

The welcome remarks were delivered by the governor of La Vega, Luisa Altagracia Jiménez Cabreja, while Estefany Victoriano Lagares offered the words of thanks on behalf of the borrowers.
