Bret Hanna-Shuford, well-known Broadway actor and influencer, dies at 46 years old

Bret Hanna-Shuford, a well-known actor in the Broadway theater circuit in New York, and a member of the social media group Broadway Husbands, has died at the age of 46, according to the family, who reported it this Sunday. Bret passed away on Saturday due to complications from a rare and aggressive type of lymphoma, in the city of Orlando, Florida, according to The Hollywood Reporter (THR). "With great sorrow, we share the news that this morning we said goodbye to the most wonderful man, husband, and dad in the universe," shared Bret's husband, Stephen Hanna-Shuford, on the Broadway Husbands Instagram account. "Bret Hanna-Shuford left this world peacefully, with love and surrounded by his family. It breaks our hearts, but we will continue to make him proud of us," she added. Bret had a long career on Broadway, including performances in "Beauty and the Beast", "Wicked" and the original companies of "Paramour", "Amazing Grace", "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and "The Little Mermaid" from Cirque du Soleil. He and his husband, Stephen, created the joint social media page Broadway Husbands, where they documented their lives as gay parents.

Born in Beaumont, Texas, he graduated in theater from Wagner College in 2001. Subsequently, he developed an extensive career as a Broadway actor and performed throughout the country on the Disney Cruise Line. He also acted in several television series, such as "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (2018), "Only Murders in the Building" (2023), and "The Good Fight" (2020). Bret also appeared in Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street". Bret and Stephen met in 2007 and married in 2011 at Greenwich Town Hall in Greenwich, Connecticut. In 2022, they welcomed their son, Maverick, THR recalls.
