Road closures due to the UN Assembly cause discomfort among citizens

Citizens complain that, due to these restrictions, they have had to walk up to six blocks to get to their workplaces, as the usual routes are guarded by the authorities. The same situation arises with bus stops, many of which are closed or have been temporarily relocated.

Although the United Nations headquarters is located at 405 East 42nd Street, the closures begin almost four blocks before, from the intersection of 42nd Street and Second Avenue, affecting traffic and mobility in the area. More than 200 heads of state and their delegations have arrived in Manhattan, which implies a strong security deployment and multiple street closures in the east side of Midtown. According to the data, the Police Department (NYPD) increased the presence of patrols. Meanwhile, the Coast Guard delimited security zones in the East River, between 36th Street East and the Queensboro Bridge (59th Street).
