The Southern District of New York's Attorney's Office decided to drop the charges against Ovidio Guzmán López, son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, with the aim of centralizing the entire judicial process in Chicago.
Guzmán, known as “El Ratón”, was arrested in Mexico in 2023 and subsequently extradited to the United States.
According to El Universal, the decision seeks to avoid the duplication of processes and facilitate the cooperation of the accused, who faces serious charges in Chicago for drug trafficking, money laundering and belonging to a criminal organization.
