Santo Domingo.- Residents and drivers who travel between the provinces of San Cristóbal and Peravia have issued an alert regarding the worrying state of the columns of the Lucas Díaz Bridge, a key structure for road communication in the southern zone of the country.
According to reports from community members and frequent users of the road, the pilings supporting the bridge show severe damage that could compromise the stability of the infrastructure. The structure crosses the Nizao River and is used daily by hundreds of vehicles traveling between both provinces.
Images and reports sent by residents indicate that the constant dragging of the river has caused the erosion and detachment of the material covering the columns, exposing parts of the internal structure of the pilings in several critical points.
The community warns that the deterioration represents a latent danger, especially during the rainy seasons, when the river flow increases and could further weaken the base of the bridge.

Faced with this situation, the complainants fear that, if timely intervention by the authorities is not carried out, the structure may give way to a future rise in the river or due to the constant weight of vehicular traffic that circulates along this important regional connection route. Residents called on the relevant authorities to carry out a technical inspection of the bridge and take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of drivers and nearby communities cercanas.
