Santo Domingo.- By accepting as good and valid the request for coercive measures presented by the Public Ministry, a judge in Azua imposed eight months of preventive detention on five men involved in the trafficking of 150 packages of drugs and declared the case as complex.
Eduard Alexander Moreta Díaz, Edwar Confesor Nicolás Marmolejos, Eudy Rodríguez, Michael Vallejo Sánchez and Meregildo Segura Cuevas must serve preventive detention in the public prison at kilometer 15 of Azua.
Their arrest was executed in flagrante delicto on November 5th when they were trafficking 150 drug packages, weighing 154.2 kilograms, during an interdiction operation at the Km. 15 checkpoint of Azua, on the Sánchez Highway, while they were being transported in two vehicles.
The accused Marmolejos, Rodríguez, Vallejo and Segura were traveling in a Hyundai car, Sonata N20 model, black color, while following Moreta, who was driving a Hyundai jeep, Santa Fe model, white color, inside of which the drug shipment was seized, which they were carrying in two secret compartments (caleta).
In addition to the drugs, the accused were found to have vehicles, money in pesos and dollars, as well as clothing, high-end phones and various documents, among other evidence, recalled the Azua Prosecutor's Office, headed by its head Dante Castillo.
Prosecutor Arodis Sánchez Bencosme is in charge of the investigation into the case for which Judge Dania Abreu Abreu, of the Second Instruction Court of the Judicial District of Azua, ordered the imprisonment of the defendants.
Those involved in the case are investigated for their connection to that illicit activity in violation of articles 5-A, 4-D, 28, 75-II and 59-I of Law 50-88 on Drugs and Controlled Substances of the Dominican Republic and Law 155-17 against Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism.
