Azua, RD. – A citizen reported being a victim of unjustified charges at the Centro Popular Azuano (CEMPA), also known as Clínica Compostela, despite being affiliated with a medical insurance.
The complainant, who preferred to remain anonymous but presented proof of the payment made, explained that he went to the center due to an emergency and that, even though he had medical coverage, he was charged for both the service and a first-aid kit which - according to what he was told - is mandatory for all patients.
He indicated that upon complaining at the time, the medical staff informed him that it was an administrative decision, about which they could not offer further explanations.
Subsequently, upon contacting his insurer SEMMA ARS, the citizen, who works as a teacher, confirmed that he had been improperly charged an amount of RD$1,223, corresponding to supplies included in the aforementioned kit and the emergency fee, concepts that, according to the insurer, are covered by the insurance.
The affected person stated that other users present at the health center expressed their dissatisfaction with similar situations, calling these charges abusive.
Faced with this scenario, the complainant called on the General Directorate of Information and Defense of Social Security Affiliates (DIDA) to investigate the case and take appropriate measures against practices that it considers irregular and harmful to social security affiliates.
