Hurricane Erin remains in category 4: rain and winds are expected in several areas of the country

Santo Domingo. – Hurricane Erin continues to be active in the Atlantic, remaining in category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, with maximum sustained winds of 220 km/h, and moving northeast at 17 km/h, according to reports from the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET). Although the hurricane is gradually moving away from the national territory, forecaster Carla Morales indicated that some cloud fields associated with the phenomenon have generated showers, thunderstorms and wind gusts in points of the northwest, southwest and center of the country.

The effects are expected to diminish during the first hours of the night, but they will partially persist tomorrow, especially during the morning on the Caribbean coast and in the afternoon towards the northwest. Regarding navigation, the specialist warned that all the country's coasts present dangerous conditions due to strong winds and abnormal waves, so she recommended keeping the vessels in port until conditions improve.
