Jakarta.- Indonesian Police announced this Tuesday that they have expanded the search for the Spanish woman María Matilde Muñoz Cazorla, 72 years old, whose trail was lost on the island of Lombok in the first week of July, without any record of her leaving the country Asian. In a statement, the West Lombok police, in charge of the case, explained that an intensive search is ongoing, now extended to ports and the airport of this island, located 210 kilometers east of touristy Bali, which the Spanish woman arrived at in June.

"Maria last flew to Jakarta on March 5, 2025. There are no flight records (in her name) for the period July-August 2025," states the document, in which the Police assure they have posted flyers with the missing person's face in several places, including public areas and hotels. Also, after reviewing the user manifests of the vessels, "no record of María Matilde as a passenger who crossed to Bali or other areas has been found." Local Police said they received a letter from the Spanish Embassy in Indonesia requesting assistance, so they began the search last Wednesday and included the septuagenarian's name in the missing persons search mechanisms. "The victim had checked in (to room 107 of the Bumi Aditya Hotel, in the town of Senggigi) on June 13, 2025, and extended her stay until July 20, 2025. However, she has not been seen since July 1, 2025," reads the statement. Authorities have asked citizens to report by phone any information that may be useful in this case, as the whereabouts of Muñoz Carzola "remain a mystery". The disappearance of the woman, born in Ferrol (La Coruña) in September 1952 and living in Mallorca, was reported on July 28 in Spain by close friends, with whom she maintained frequent communication in a chat group, in which the messages they send her from July 7 do not appear as received. Nurmala Hayati, accountant at the Bumi Aditya hotel, told EFE on Friday that Muñoz, single and without children, paid in advance and told her that she was going to the beach the last time she saw her. "On July 5th, the hotel staff told me that Matilde hadn't returned since July 2nd. I sent her a WhatsApp message but she didn't receive it. It was only on the 6th (of July) when she replied saying she was in Laos. I didn't write to her anymore," adds Hayati, who claims to be in contact with the Lombok Police.
