García Fermín highlights before the Chamber of Deputies the National Scholarship System created by Abinader

Santo Domingo. - The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Doctor Franklin García Fermín, highlighted, before the Education Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, the National Scholarship System created by President Luis Abinader to favor young people based on academic competencies and without taking into account partisan colors. He said that through decrees numbers 549-21 and 541-21, it has been allowed for scholarships to be awarded based on a study prepared by the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development, which takes into account young people from the most vulnerable cities.

García Fermín went to the Chamber of Deputies to explain the functioning of the National Scholarship System, regarding an initiative presented in that regard by legislator Starling Vásquez. The Education Commission is chaired by Representative Elvira Corporán, from the province of San Juan. García Fermín emphasized that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology is willing to send its technicians to provide support to the piece presented by the congressman of the Lower House. He assured that in the awarding of scholarships, priority has been given to STEM careers (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) as a way to accelerate the development of the Dominican Republic. She said that women have earned the right to study those disciplines as a way of contributing to the country. García Fermín also said that students who receive international scholarships are monitored by MESCyT along with the universities where they are studying their careers. He underlined that the institution he leads has an office that follows up on students who manage to graduate from foreign universities. He insisted that the scholarships are awarded within a framework of transparency and based on the country's priorities in terms of development as stated by President Abinader. García Fermín went to the Chamber of Deputies accompanied by a commission of officials and technicians from MESCyT. The members of the Executive Commission of the Chamber of Deputies thanked Minister García Fermín for his explanations and the opportunities that have been given to young people to study through the scholarship system in the country and abroad.
