Abinader oversees food delivery to communities on red alert due to storm Melissa

Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader supervised this Friday the thousands of food rations that are packed in the Dirección de Asistencia Social y Alimentación Comunitaria (DASAC), formerly Plan Social de la Presidencia, destined for the communities affected by the tropical storm Melissa.

During the visit, the president verified the selection and packaging process of basic products such as rice, salt, oil, sugar, milk, beans, sardines, elbow macaroni, oatmeal, and coffee, which will be distributed to the affected families in the provinces under red alert. You may be interested in: http://Gobierno mantiene para este sábado suspensión de labores en provincias en alerta roja Abinader also announced that the Government will implement the use of drones to deliver food kits to areas inaccessible due to the collapse of bridges or flooding of rivers, in order to ensure that aid reaches all sectors in need. Likewise, the Head of State informed that the Economic Dining Halls will continue to deliver cooked food through their mobile kitchens, while DASAC and the Social Policy Cabinet will coordinate the delivery of household items, blankets and mosquito nets to the affected families. "The goal is that no Dominican family is left unattended. We are redoubling efforts to ensure that aid arrives on time and to all places impacted by Melissa," the president would have expressed during his tour. The president toured the DASAC warehouses, where he was able to observe firsthand the work of hundreds of collaborators who pack food and essential items for the areas most affected by the rains. The president was accompanied by the director of DASAC, Edgar Augusto Félix Méndez, the mayor of Santo Domingo Este, Dío Astacio, and the coordinator of the Social Policy Cabinet, Tony Peña Guaba.
