Santo Domingo. - Three people, including the former director of the National Health Insurance (SeNaSa), Santiago Hazim, his nephew Rafael Martínez Hazim and the businessman Eduardo Read, will remain under arrest at the Attorney General's Office (PGR) for their alleged involvement in a wide corruption network within the institution. The case came to light several months ago following an investigation, which revealed millionaire irregularities in contracts awarded during Hazim's administration. Subsequently, the Government conducted its own investigations and submitted the findings to the PGR. Days ago, Deputy Attorney General Wilson Camacho announced that the case file would have news "very soon", which is confirmed this Saturday with the arrests. The Attorney General's Office is investigating an alleged multi-million dollar embezzlement from the State through contracts awarded to companies linked to the investigated parties, who received public payments without guaranteeing real medical services to the affiliates. During Hazim's management, SeNaSa signed agreements with the company Khersum, owned by Eduardo Read, for millionaire amounts guaranteed regardless of the number of services provided, in a scheme lacking controls and transparency. In parallel, Martínez Hazim created the brand My Care, dedicated to telemedicine services, which was also benefited with contracts within the same period. The investigation points to possible crimes of administrative corruption, association of wrongdoers, collusion, and fraud against the State, while the Public Ministry prepares the next judicial stages of the process.
