SANTO DOMINGO. – The starting pitchers market continues to take shape in the 2025-26 offseason and one of the most sought-after names, Dominican Framber Valdez, has sparked the interest of several contending teams. According to Jon Paul Morosi (MLB Network), the star left-hander met with the San Francisco Giants, New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles during the recent General Managers Meetings.

Valdez, who has a solid career ERA of 3.36 in 1,080.2 innings, is seen as the most impactful starting pitcher available after Dylan Cease signed with the Toronto Blue Jays, a move that puts him at the top of the pitching market.

Giants evaluate their options

Reports from San Francisco have been divided regarding the aggressiveness the club will have in the search for an elite starter. Versions from ESPN and The Athletic indicate that they could lean towards lower-cost alternatives, instead of high-profile pitchers like Valdez, the Venezuelan Ranger Suárez or the Japanese Tatsuya Imai. Even so, the team does not rule out moves via trade, including prospect Bryce Eldridge as a possible negotiation piece.

Mets buscan un as, pero con cautela

Although the Mets have indicated that a number one starter is their winter priority, management is reluctant to give out long-term contracts. Reports from The Athletic indicate that New York prefers shorter deals, which could complicate talks with Valdez, who would seek a commitment commensurate with his status.

Orioles, always attentive to the market

The Orioles maintain an active presence among teams looking to improve their rotations and have shown interest in several sought-after pitchers. The meeting with Valdez is part of their strategy to remain competitive in the American League East Division.
