Santo Domingo.- State lawyers Jorge Antonio López and Fernando P. Henríquez described as "historic" the sentence that imposes 7 years in prison on Juan Alexis Medina Sánchez, the joint payment of RD$500 million and the seizure of assets in the Antipulpo case. They indicated that they will wait for the full reading to specify criteria and grounds.
López pointed out that the ruling accepts the thesis of material and moral damages to the State and that the amount set will be determined based on the concepts accepted by the court. He recalled that the original civil lawsuit amounted to RD$24,000 million and that the recovery of assets will follow the procedural course after the decision.
Henríquez expressed conformity with the result and highlighted the work of the State's legal team. Both anticipated that they will review the complete reasoning to evaluate additional actions in civil court if applicable.
In parallel, the Public Ministry announced that it will appeal the discharges issued to some defendants and reaffirmed that its theory of the case was proven in court.
