Jerusalem.- The Israeli army confirmed this Sunday that its new ground operation called "Chariots of Gideon" in the Gaza Strip began with ground incursions in both the north and south of the Palestinian enclave.
The announcement comes after the intense aerial bombing campaign, concentrated above all in the north of the Strip, launched by Israel without respite since last Tuesday, which has since then caused hundreds of deaths daily.
Los ataques israelíes matan a al menos 107 personas
Meanwhile, Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip have killed at least 107 people from midnight to midday this Sunday, according to the Gazan Ministry of Health.
Munir Al Bursh, general director of the ministry that is part of the Gazan government of Hamas, indicated in a note sent to EFE that the deaths this Sunday occurred in several areas of the Strip: 28 in the north, 8 in Gaza City, 21 in the center of the enclave and 50 in the south.
Regarding the updated death toll in yesterday's Saturday attacks in Gaza, it reported a total of 153 people.
Attack on a Displaced Persons Camp
Hours earlier, health authorities had reported the deaths of at least 34 people when the Israeli army attacked late Saturday with drones the tent camps of Mawasi (southern Gaza), an area that until the truce was broken was described as "safe" and in which hundreds of thousands of people are still crowded, according to figures from health authorities.
The refugee tents were located in the vicinity of the Kuwati Hospital in Mawasi, which shortly after the attack announced the suspension of its surgical services due to the "serious damage suffered by the hospital after the attack in the surrounding area".
The images circulated uploaded by Gazans on social media show the chaos after the attack, with hundreds of people pulling the wounded and dead from the rubble while others try to extinguish with sand (Mawasi is on the coast) the fires caused by the bombing.
Mawasi was considered by the Army a "safe zone" for months and until March 18, when Israel broke the ceasefire. Until then, the armed forces habitually urged the population to move there, so the place remains a hotbed of tents.
A Hundred Deaths from Israeli Attacks
The attack on Mawasi is the deadliest on a black night in the Gaza Strip: Israeli armed forces have killed 97 people overnight, according to the count of the Ministry of Health early this Sunday morning.
The attack is part of the Israeli escalation of "extensive" attacks on Gaza, with nearly 200 deaths between Friday and Saturday, with the advance of troops to occupy more territory in the Palestinian enclave, in a new offensive dubbed "Chariots of Gideon".
One of the places where the ground operation spread is Deir al Balah, in central Gaza. Troops had never entered there since the offensive began in October 2023, and the city is the center of operations for many NGOs and international agencies in the Strip.
Israel has killed about 53,300 Palestinians since October 7, 2023, in Gaza, when it launched its retaliation on the Strip for the attack led by Hamas that same day, in which about 1,200 people died in Israeli territory and another 251 were kidnapped by the militiamen.
