Washington,.- The president of the U.S., Donald Trump, assured this Monday that he is satisfied with the "results" of the lifting of sanctions on Syria, insisted that it is "important" that Israel maintains a "solid and sincere" dialogue with Damascus and warned the Israeli Government that nothing can interfere with the progress of the Arab nation.
"It is very important that Israel maintains a solid and sincere dialogue with Syria and that nothing happens that interferes with Syria's evolution towards a prosperous State", Trump wrote on his Truth Social network. You may be interested in:http://Piden retirar la beca para autores latinoamericanos anunciada por el alcalde de Barcelona
The leader highlighted the work of the Syrian president, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, a former rebel fighter detained by US forces in Iraq in 2005 for his links to Al Qaeda and whom Washington now presents as "a strong leader" for the nation, after the fall of Bashar al-Asad's government in December 2024. Al-Sharaa "works diligently to ensure that positive things happen and that both Syria and Israel have a long and prosperous relationship with each other", Trump indicated today in his message. "The United States is very satisfied with the results shown, thanks to the hard work and determination, in Syria. (...) One of the things that has helped them the most was my removal of very strong and severe sanctions; I think this was really appreciated by Syria, its leadership, and its people," highlighted the Republican. According to Trump, the renewed relationship between Israel and Syria is "a historic opportunity and adds to the success already achieved for peace in the Middle East". The American president received Al-Sharaa last November 10th in the Oval Office, in the first visit of a Syrian head of state to the White House since Syria gained its independence from France in 1946. The Syrian leader's visit took place after Washington lifted the sanctions imposed on Damascus for decades, under the Assad family's rule, and while Al-Sharaa seeks the definitive repeal of the restrictions that still affect foreign investment and the reconstruction of the country. This Sunday, the US government reported that a joint operation between its Army and Syrian authorities led to the location and destruction last week of more than 15 ISIS weapons depots in southern Syria.
