COE discontinues green alert due to decreased rainfall in several provinces

Santo Domingo.– The Directorate of the Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported this Wednesday, at 11:30 in the morning, the discontinuation of the green alert level in several provinces of the country, after the decrease in rainfall recorded in the last few hours. The agency explained that, according to the weather bulletin from the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), isolated showers of short duration originated early in the morning in locations of La Altagracia, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Monte Plata, Samaná and Barahona, among others, but they have been significantly reduced.

For the afternoon and early evening, more frequent rainfall is expected, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and wind gusts in provinces such as El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Duarte, San Cristóbal, Peravia, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, Elías Piña, Independencia, as well as locations in Gran Santo Domingo. However, in a large part of the national territory, mostly sunny sky conditions will prevail, with a gray appearance due to the presence of dust particles from the Sahara. The COE recalled that the decision to lift the green alert is in accordance with the provisions of Law 147-02 on Risk Management, as the danger of rising rivers, streams and ravines, as well as urban and flash floods, has decreased.
