Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) paid tribute this Friday to Radhamés Aracena, founder of Radio Guarachita, within the framework of the celebration of International Radio Day and the commemoration of 100 years of broadcasting in the Dominican Republic.

“We are celebrating 100 years of radio, but recognizing a distinguished figure in radio, Mr. Radhamés Aracena,” Gómez Mazara expressed to communicators and representatives of the sector. The official recalled that Radio Guarachita became a symbol of closeness to the population and of social penetration throughout the country. "I know that none of you had been born, but Radio Guarachita is a fundamental symbol of how radio penetrated all social sectors of the country, how the population perceived it as a community radio station of orientation," he affirmed. Gómez Mazara highlighted that the station founded by Aracena represented an era in which radio was synonymous with training, quality, and commitment to the audience. “It was a glorious era of radio, well-structured people, with quality, with competence, with training,” he pointed out. The president of Indotel stated that the tribute constitutes an act of historical justice for a figure who decisively contributed to the strengthening of the medium and the projection of Dominican popular music.
