Trump's 'border czar' warns of increase in immigration operations in the US

Washington.- The 'border czar' of Donald Trump, Tom Homan, said this Thursday that the Administration is not satisfied with the number of immigrant detentions, which is why they have increased the number of agents assigned to this task.

Homan explained to the press gathered in the gardens of the White House that they have "considerably" increased the teams of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) dedicated to the arrests of immigrants and the "targeting" of the operations.

"We anticipate a rapid increase in the number of arrests," the 'border czar' anticipated.

The White House has faced pressure to fulfill the mass deportations promised by the president in his campaign and by the Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristin Noem, upon assuming office.

When questioned about the approximately 40 arrests last Tuesday in the affluent areas of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket by masked ICE agents, Homan said that it is a priority for the Trump Administration to take care of its immigration teams.

He also highlighted that measures are being implemented across the country. “We are not saying that we are going to favor one area over another,” said the official, who held the position of ICE director.

He indicated that in the coming weeks they are going to "flood" sanctuary cities with immigration operations: "We will give them exactly what they don't want: more agents in the neighborhoods, more control in the workplaces."

Last week, the DHS began implementing a new strategy in immigration courts, which has allowed it to arrest foreigners who appeared at their hearings in the courts.

The detainees, asylum seekers who entered in the last two years, face expedited deportation, which has sparked protests from immigrant advocates. ICE operations to detain and deport immigrants are joined by around 8,500 who have registered in the CBP Home application to leave the country voluntarily.
