Washington.- The pharmaceutical company Kenvue, manufacturer of Tylenol, the popular brand of paracetamol in the United States, rejected on Monday the statements of President Donald Trump, who called for limiting its use in pregnant women due to its possible link to autism.
"We strongly disagree with any suggestion contrary to independent science", said Melissa Witt, a spokesperson for Kenvue, in an interview with the American media outlet The New York Times.

"We are deeply concerned about the risk this poses to the health of future mothers," added Witt in statements that arise alongside a warning issued by Trump that directly links Tylenol as a cause of autism in children. In the United States, Tylenol is one of the most widely used over-the-counter analgesics and antipyretics, with millions of consumers choosing it annually to relieve pain and fever. The brand belongs to Kenvue, a company spun off from Johnson & Johnson, and generates millions in sales, estimated at around $1 billion a year, according to the pharmaceutical company's website. "We strongly recommend that women limit the use of Tylenol during pregnancy unless medically necessary," Trump said during a press conference at the White House. Trump began his speech by calling the situation of autism in the United States a "horrible crisis" and said that "there is no downside" to stopping the consumption of this medication. The Trump administration ordered that the medication be labeled in sales centers due to the risk it may entail. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists issued a statement assuring that acetaminophen is safe and that the illnesses treated during pregnancy "are much more dangerous than any theoretical risk and can cause serious health problems," according to Steven J. Fleischman, president of the organization.
