J Salez: The Mexican without Dominican roots who carries bachata in his heart

Miami, FL.- In the framework of the Billboard week, the Mexican-American artist J Salez, spoke with De Último Minuto about his career and his connection with bachata, a genre he adopted as his own despite not having Dominican roots.

Born in Corona, California, and residing in Los Angeles, J Salez discovered bachata at the age of 20, when he began practicing the dance. His interest led him to teach classes and perform at national and international events, where he developed a deeper connection with the rhythm. "I am Mexican, my parents are from Jalisco, I grew up in California and bachata always, when I was a child, I loved it. I listened to Aventura, Romeo Santos, Toby Love... but when I turned about 21 years old I started dancing bachata and traveling to different parts of the world dancing bachata, doing shows. So, when I decided to make music, I understood that bachata was perfect for me. I love to dance, sing songs of love and heartbreak, and that's why I think bachata is perfect," he told De Último Minuto. His musical training originates in the family environment. His parents were mariachi singers, which brought him closer to interpretation and composition from an early age. From that base, he decided to transform his career towards music, choosing bachata as a means of expression, which surprised those who know him, because instead of opting for an autochthonous genre of his country, he chose to interpret one originating from the Dominican Republic. “My parents used to say to me: ‘Bachata? Why not mariachi?’ And it’s that I have a close and special relationship with bachata. I see that, if I work at it with love, discipline and effort, I can make history in this genre. Also, I love doing something different,” he added.

His songs exceed 15 million plays on digital platforms, consolidating his presence on the international scene with performances in the United States, Canada, and Italy. J Salez explained that his purpose is to broaden representation within the genre and demonstrate that bachata can connect with diverse cultures. With the support of EQ5 Music, he seeks to continue developing projects that strengthen his artistic identity and contribute to the evolution of the genre.
