SANTO DOMINGO.– President Luis Abinader clarified this Monday, during his meeting with the press La Semanal, that the military plane that flew over the border by Dajabón is part of the routine surveillance operations carried out by the Air Force, amid the growing tension and insecurity that Haiti is experiencing.

Earlier, residents in Dajabón reported the flyover of the aircraft TP-75 Dulus, used for patrol, monitoring, and aerial reconnaissance missions. The aircraft made a tour of the northern zone of the country and later moved south, as part of the border supervision protocols.

The president confirmed that the flight corresponds to usual operations.

"We saw that a media outlet published that there was a plane flying overhead. That is a Dulus plane, but we do that every day," explained Abinader.

Faced with the instability in Haiti, where this Monday heavily armed gang members ordered the population to stay home to confront law enforcement, Abinader assured that the Dominican Government maintains strict vigilance over any movement that could compromise national security.

"We have a sufficient level of intelligence, with our forces and with foreign forces that are there. We are aware of any operation that may compromise the security of the country on the border," he affirmed.

The president explained that this Monday a special alert was activated due to reports of protests in Haitian territory, which is why he held communication with the Dominican ambassador in Port-au-Prince. "The border situation remains a priority for us," he added. The TP-75 flyover is part of the government's border reinforcement policy, which includes aerial, ground, and intelligence surveillance, with the aim of guaranteeing national security in the face of the worsening Haitian crisis.
