Indomet forecasts heat, gray skies, and isolated showers this Monday in the Dominican Republic

SANTO DOMINGO. – The Dominican Republic's Meteorology Institute (Indomet) reports that the weather forecast in Dominican Republic for this Monday, June 30th, indicates a significant reduction in rainfall, although isolated showers with thunderstorms are expected in some provinces in the interior of the country. This improvement is due to the distancing of the trough and the tropical wave, which will be replaced by a drier air mass loaded with Saharan dust.

The agency details that the presence of these Saharan particles will generate a grayish sky, scarce cloud cover, and hot temperatures, with highs between 32 °C and 34 °C, and lows between 21 °C and 23 °C. Although the atmosphere will become more stable, local rainfall could be recorded in the afternoon, mainly in Santiago Rodríguez, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, San Juan and Elías Piña. The National Forecast Center maintains weather alerts in five provinces, due to the risk of river flooding, gullies, urban floods and possible landslides:
  • Santo Domingo
  • San Pedro de Macorís
  • Monte Plata
  • Hato Mayor
  • Monseñor Nouel
In the Greater Santo Domingo, moderate to heavy showers with thunderstorms and wind gusts are forecast until the early hours of the night, especially in Santo Domingo North and West.

Tropical Storm Barry Poses No Threat

On the other hand, Indomet reported that tropical storm Barry is located about 55 kilometers east/northeast of Tuxpan, Mexico, with maximum winds of 75 km/h and moving northwest at 15 km/h. It is expected to make landfall tonight, without posing a threat to the Dominican Republic. An area of low pressure is also observed near the Gulf and the east coast of the United States, which could have some tropical or subtropical development. However, its probability of formation is low: 0% in the next 48 hours and 20% in the next 7 days.
