Government meets classroom construction goal

Santo Domingo.– The Government assured this Monday that it has met the goal of building 1,100 school classrooms in the current stage of the educational expansion plan, while announcing the launch of a permanent maintenance program in the schools of the public system. The announcement was made by President Luis Abinader and the Director of School Infrastructure (DIE), Roberto Herrera, during the meeting LA Semanal with the press. Herrera explained that the new classrooms were built mainly in provinces with high student demand, such as Santo Domingo, Santiago and La Altagracia, as a result of population growth in those areas.

The official detailed that, within the 24/7 Plan, a total of 40,327 classrooms have been delivered, compared to an enrollment of 32,900 students in the education system in the same period, which leaves a favorable balance of more than 7,000 classrooms to reduce the historical deficit. In parallel, he announced that the Ministry of Education will launch a continuous maintenance plan, which will be carried out on weekends and night hours to guarantee the preservation of school infrastructure.

President Abinader supported these measures and reiterated that education remains a priority for his Government.

“Estamos comprometidos en ofrecer condiciones dignas para que nuestros estudiantes y maestros cuenten con espacios adecuados en todo el país”,

expresó.
