The resignation comes amid a severe social and political crisis, marked by massive protests that were violently dispersed by security forces. Local and international human rights organizations have condemned the excessive use of force and demanded an independent investigation into the deaths. Oli's departure opens a new scenario of negotiations between the main political forces of Nepal, who must now define a path to respond to citizen demands and restore confidence in the institutions.
